A novated lease isn’t the only way to get into a car.

If you’re self-employed, your work setup doesn’t fit, or the car you want isn’t an EV, you still have questions worth asking. Let’s make the other car finance options easier to understand.

Different starting points. Different questions.

One route not working out doesn’t tell you what a lender will say about another. Each option has its own terms and checks.

A quick word on novated leases

An EV is often what gets people looking at novated leasing. Whether a lease is available depends on the car and work setup; for other cars and situations, the details can look different. If one isn’t available, other finance categories may still be available to ask about.

Employer said no? That may be a separate question from the finance itself.

A few routes to ask about

These are common finance categories, not a shortlist or a recommendation. The product details and eligibility depend on the lender and your circumstances.

Secured car loan

The car may be used as security for the loan.

Often explored by

A route people often ask about when an employer isn’t part of the finance arrangement.

A question to take with you

Ask how the security works, what happens if you sell the car, whether there’s a final balloon payment, and what fees apply.

Business vehicle finance

Finance arranged in connection with a business or work use.

Often explored by

Sole traders, contractors and business owners exploring a vehicle for work or mixed use.

A question to take with you

The available structure can depend on your business and the vehicle. Ask a finance provider about the product; take tax and deduction questions to your accountant.

Personal loan

A personal borrowing product that may be secured or unsecured, depending on the loan.

Often explored by

People comparing borrowing options outside an employer-arranged lease.

A question to take with you

“Personal loan” covers different products. Ask whether the lender allows the funds to be used for a car, what secures the loan, and what the repayments and fees include.

When you’re looking at a quote, get curious about the details.

Different quotes can describe costs in different ways. To understand what’s included, you could ask the provider to walk through:

  • What the regular repayment includes
  • Any establishment, ongoing or early-exit fees
  • Whether there’s a final balloon or residual amount
  • How the interest rate is described and calculated

This is a list of things to clarify with a provider, not a way to rate or compare a particular loan.

Where Savvy fits in

Savvy is LeasePlease’s current finance referral partner. If you choose to ask about finance options, we’ll explain what information is shared and ask for your permission before referring you. Savvy may then contact you to discuss the products they can help with.

LeasePlease may receive a referral fee if finance settles through Savvy. You don’t pay us a separate referral fee, and a referral doesn’t guarantee approval or mean a product is right for you.

The contact link goes to LeasePlease. It does not send your details to Savvy. We’ll ask before sharing anything.

A few questions people ask

Can I get car finance if I’m self-employed?

There may be finance products for people who are self-employed, but each lender sets its own eligibility and evidence requirements. A broker can explain which enquiries they can take; an accountant can help with tax questions.

Does not qualifying for a novated lease mean I can’t finance a car?

No. Novated leasing and other car finance have different setups and eligibility rules. Not being able to use a novated lease does not tell you whether a lender will approve another type of finance.

Does LeasePlease recommend which finance option I should choose?

No. This page explains common finance terms and questions you can raise. It does not assess your circumstances or recommend a product or decision.

Can Savvy help with a personal loan?

We have not confirmed whether personal-loan enquiries are supported through the Savvy referral pathway. Ask us or Savvy which products are currently available before sharing your details.

This page is general information only. It is not financial, credit, legal or tax advice and doesn’t assess your situation or recommend a loan. Finance is subject to lender terms, checks and approval. Ask a qualified professional about decisions for your circumstances.
